Introduction

Oyster Skin is committed to the ethical, transparent, and responsible use of Artificial Intelligence (AI) in skincare. We build AI systems that empower people with informed skincare decisions while safeguarding fairness, human oversight, and accountability.

This AI Policy applies to all Oyster Skin systems, employees, contractors, and third-party vendors.

Scope

Covers all AI systems developed, procured, or deployed by Oyster, including:

  • AI-powered skin scan & analysis
  • Recommendation engine for personalized skincare
  • Usage analytics & churn insights
  • E-commerce product matching APIs
  • AI-enabled customer engagement (chatbots, notifications)

Regulatory Compliance

Oyster Skin adheres to:

  • Rwanda Data Protection and Privacy Law N° 058/2021 - (in review, See Privacy Policy )
  • Nigeria NDPR 2019 / NDPA 2023
  • GDPR EU (in review)
  • OECD AI Principles (transparency, fairness, accountability)
  • ISO/IEC 27001 (in review)

Ethical AI Principles

Fairness & Non-Discrimination: Regular bias audits to ensure inclusive performance across all skin tones, genders, and demographics.

Transparency: Users are informed when AI is applied, with clear explanations of outcomes.

Accountability: Oyster accepts responsibility for AI-based outcomes; appeals and human reviews are available for quality assurance.

Human Oversight: Licensed estheticians and dermatologists supervise critical decisions.

Safety & Security: AI systems undergo rigorous validation and monitoring before and after deployment.

Governance & Risk Management

  • AI Ethics Committee: Oversees fairness, transparency, and regulatory compliance.
  • Model Validation & Testing: All models tested pre-deployment and monitored post-deployment.
  • Continuous Monitoring: Ongoing tracking of model performance, drift, and fairness.
  • Incident Response: Breaches or adverse outcomes investigated promptly with clear remediation.
  • Third-Party AI Vendors: Subject to contractual compliance with Oyster's ethical and technical standards.

This policy is reviewed annually and updated in line with regulatory and technological changes. Users will be notified of significant updates.
